IONA – Iona Mayor Brad Anderson will stay in office after a recall election failed Tuesday.

Of the 552 votes cast, 208 were in favor of the recall.

“I’m excited to be able to continue and serve the community,” Anderson told EastIdahoNews.com. “That’s all I’ve wanted to do from the beginning. That’s why a ran to become mayor, to take an interest in the community and try to do what’s best for them.”

Anderson said he doesn’t feel the recall election will affect how he will continue to serve the people of Iona.

“I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing and try to see if I can unify the community and be as transparent as I can as I’ve been before,” he said.

Controversy over water metering and concerns over Iona citizens not being heard lead to the heated election. For more on the debate leading up to the election, click here.
