RIGBY — A brother and sister are recovering after being hit by a truck Friday after school hours.

The accident occurred just before 4 p.m. near the Jefferson School District #251 office building on the 3800 block of 300 North.

According to Idaho State Police, the siblings were walking from the direction of the high school. Police declined to release the names and ages of the boy and girl but both were taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Authorities say the driver of the truck swerved off the road and onto the sidewalk to avoid rear-ending a car in front of him. The driver was cited for failing to maintain his lane.

Jefferson County Sheriff deputies and Rigby police officers also responded to the scene.
