OREM, Utah — Mountain View High School was put on lockdown early Tuesday morning after five students were stabbed, police said.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. at Mountain View High School at 665 Center St., according to Orem police. Five students were stabbed at the school, police confirmed, but it is currently unknown how serious their injuries are.

Police reported that a 16-year-old male is in custody and the school was temporarily put on lockdown during the investigation.

Around 9:30 a.m. school resumed as normal and counselors were on hand for anyone who wants to talk to them, according to Alpine School District official John Patten. Parents can check out students if they choose to and can pick up their children at the church building at 700 W. Center St., police said.
