IDAHO FALLS — A 27‐year‐old Idaho Falls man faces a felony attempted strangulation charge after allegedly choking a woman.

Police arrested Jerad R. Contreras Wednesday morning on the 600 block of Westhill after being called to a domestic battery complaint around 8:30 a.m.

The victim told police Contreras had grabbed her by the throat twice, causing her to pass out, at a home on the 200 block of Maple Street Tuesday night.

Police say the victim reported that Contreras also grabbed her and threw her into a wall.

Two children were in the home during the alleged assault, adding an additional charge of misdemeanor domestic battery in the presence of children.

Contreras was arrested and booked into the Bonneville County Jail on felony attempted strangulation, misdemeanor malicious injury to property and misdemeanor false imprisonment. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.

Contreras has previous felony aggravated assault convictions in 2009 from Bingham County.
