AMMON — Some 16,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers are without power as of 2:53 p.m. Saturday.

The outage is effecting residents in Idaho Falls, Iona, Rigby and Ucon.

The cause of the outage is still under investigation. Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bryan Lovell confirms there is a fire at the Sugarmill substation along Hitt Road.

RMP officials say the outage is affecting transmission to three other substations.

Power crews and emergency responders have been dispatched to deal with the situation.

Local law enforcement is directing traffic during the outage as a number of lights are out. Motorist should treat all non-functioning stoplights as 4-way stops until power is restored.
