DAILY FORECAST: Lots of rain today and another winter storm advisory

  Published at

IDAHO FALLS — There will be widespread rain showers throughout the region for Friday, April 7. That moisture will turn into snow in some areas by this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm advisory for the following counties: Bear Lake, Franklin, Caribou, Bannock, western Bonneville and western Bingham. The advisory goes into effect at 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday afternoon.

Between 1 and 3 inches of snow are expected to fall in the valleys and 4 to 7 inches in the mountain passes.

Additionally, NWS has issued a lesser snow advisory for Clark, Fremont, Teton, western Madison, Butte and Custer counties. A low pressure system and strong cold front will move through the region Saturday afternoon and evening. Rain showers Saturday are expected to change to snow showers behind a strong cold front Saturday evening. Between 1 to 4 inches is expected.

A winter storm watch also has been issued for western Wyoming.

Flood conditions remain, and may get worse this weekend due to the precipitation.

The Portneuf River in Pocatello is measuring at 9 feet and minor flooding is still occurring along its banks. The river will gradually fall to below flood stage by late today, however due to wet weather the river is expected to rise again to 10 feet by Sunday.

The Bear River in Bear Lake County is below flood stage and most of the flooding is gone. But a flood advisory is still in effect for the region due to some residual flooding along the river.

A flood watch has been issued for northern Utah.

ROAD REPORT

No major road closures are being reported as of 8 a.m. Friday.

Construction on northbound Interstate 15 between exit 72 (Chubbuck) and exit 80 (Fort Hall) has been reduced to one lane due to bridge maintenance. Expect delays and reduced speed of 65 mph through May 12.
