DAILY FORECAST: Rain, snow and wind!

IDAHO FALLS — A special weather advisory has been issued in eastern Idaho for Monday, April 24.

The National Weather Service reports rain and snow will develop across southeast Idaho today through Tuesday. Snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches is expected on mountain passes and in areas of higher elevations. Snow and slush is predicted on the roadways.

The communities under the advisory are: Stanley, Clayton, St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs, Victor, Henry, Soda Springs, Downey, Lava Hot Springs, Montpelier, Hailey, Ketchum and Bellevue.

A winter weather advisory and winter storm warning are in effect for parts of western Wyoming. Between 8 and 16 inches of snow could fall throughout the region.

Minor flooding continues along the Portneuf River. The river has stabilized more than a foot above flood stage at 9.9 feet. Water levels are expected to stay at that level through Wednesday.

A flood advisory is still in effect for the Bear River in Bear Lake County. The river, and surrounding streams remain elevated and are slightly above their banks from Montpelier to the Wyoming State Line. Some minor field and dirt road flooding is occurring near Pegram and Dingle.

ROAD REPORT

No major road closures have been reported as of 8 a.m. Monday.

Difficult driving conditions are being reported on U.S. Highway 20 between Island Park and West Yellowstone, Montana. The roads are covered in snow.

Construction on northbound Interstate 15 between exit 72 (Chubbuck) and exit 80 (Fort Hall) has been reduced to one lane due to bridge maintenance. Expect delays and reduced speed of 65 mph through May 12.

Idaho Falls, Rigby and Rexburg

The Upper Snake River Plain will see numerous rain showers today with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. It’ll be windy with southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph, which will increase to 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Highs of 46 to 53 degrees are expected.

At night it’ll be mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of rain and decreasing winds. Lows of 33 to 40 degrees are expected.

Pocatello, Fort Hall and Blackfoot

The Lower Snake River Plain will see numerous rain showers throughout the day with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. It’ll be windy with southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Highs of 45 to 52 degrees are expected.

It’ll be cloudy at night with a 50 percent chance of rain, continued wind and lows of 35 to 42 degrees.

St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs and Victor

The Upper Snake Highlands will see numerous rain and snow showers throughout the day with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Up to two inches of snow could fall above 6,000 feet. Highs of 42 to 49 degrees are expected. There will be widespread rain and snow showers at night with up to 3 inches possible above 6,700 feet. Lows of 28 to 35 degrees are predicted.

Arco, Challis and Mackay

There will be scattered snow showers and rain throughout the day with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Up to 2 inches of snow is possible above 6,500 feet. Highs of 44 to 52 degrees are predicted. It’ll be cloudy at night with continued precipitation and lows of 30 to 37 degrees.

Henry, Soda Springs, Downey and Lava Hot Springs

The Caribou Highlands will see widespread rain and snow showers throughout the day with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Up to 3 inches of snow is possible above 6,900 feet. Highs of 43 to 50 degrees are predicted. The rain and snow will continue at night with up to 3 more inches of snow possible above 6,600 feet. Lows of 32 to 39 degrees are expected.
