9-year-old girl dies after falling into creek near Bozeman
Published at | Updated atBOZEMAN — A 9-year-old girl died Sunday after falling into Arch Falls along Hyalite Creek south of Bozeman.
Authorities have identified the child as Juliana Currie and say she was found around 9:30 p.m. in a log jam below the falls after a three-and-a-half hour search.
The girl was with her parents at the time of the fall, a Gallatin County Sheriff’s deputy told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
Ground crews made their way to the scene on foot and ATVs as helicopters and a drone searched the creek from the air. The Chronicle reports helicopters also used a sling to carry equipment to search and rescue members at the falls.
The fast-moving cold water and hazards, including log jams, made rescue efforts extremely dangerous.
