Amy Grant promises ‘Walk down Memory Lane’ during concert tonight

IDAHO FALLS — “The Queen of Christian Pop” will be performing in east Idaho tonight and she’s promising fans a “walk down memory lane through songs.”

Amy Grant is one of the most well-known contemporary Christian singers in the world. She has sold over 30 million albums, won six Grammy Awards, 22 Gospel Music Association Dove Award and she had the first Christian album ever to go Platinum.

“I started singing as a senior in high school,” Grant said during a phone interview with EastIdahoNews.com from her Nashville farm. “That was almost 40 years ago and I’ve learned music is such a great way to bring people together. It’s storytelling with a musical background and everybody’s got a story.”

Grant will share her story during a concert at Idaho State University’s Jensen Grand Concert Hall on May 18. Four other musicians will accompany her as she sings some of her most well-known hits.

“I love these evenings. They are loose enough that we can go any direction. If somebody shouts out a song they want to hear, I’ll try my best to play it – if I can remember it,” Grant said with a laugh.

In addition to touring, Grant is preparing to host a music therapy session for military veterans who suffer with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She and other Nashville musicians will spend the weekend with the veterans at her farm.

“We’re pairing each of the veterans with a songwriter to help them reframe their story in a way that doesn’t access the same trauma (from war) but in a way they can tell their story,” Grant said. “We’ll give each of them a guitar and say, ‘This is your new weapon.'”

Grant is looking forward to visiting Pocatello and has a message for fans living in Idaho.

“I hope the best songs are still ahead,” she said. “Music is good for the soul and I hope you’ll join us for a great evening.”
