SHELLEY — Family and friends are planning a balloon release in honor of a teenage boy who was hit and killed by a car Friday night.

Ethan Johnson, 13, was with two other boys on the 7000 block of South 45th West when the vehicle struck him around 11:10 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ethan attended Hobbs Middle School and the public is invited to the school on Pine St. to release balloons at 11 a.m. Friday.

“Our little community of Shelley is really hurting this week,” Lori Newman, one of the event organizers, tells EastIdahoNews.com. “We need to do something to give our youth the opportunity to honor their friend & classmate. I think having everyone together for this event will bring comfort to some aching hearts.”

Funeral services for Ethan were held this afternoon. He will be buried at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
