MOSCOW — Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal two vehicle crash on Idaho Highway 8 near Moscow, Idaho.

The accident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

A blue 1985 Honda Prelude being driven by 28-year-old Zachary Brunes of Deary, was traveling eastbound when he went off the right side of the road before reentering the highway. He then slid left of center and struck a black 2013 Toyota Corolla, being driven by 53-year-old Mieczyslaw Wilk of Moscow.

Upon impact, Brunes’ vehicle was sheared in half. Both pieces of his vehicle came to rest off the roadway. Brunes was transported to Gritman Medical Center and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Wilk and his two passengers, 27-year-old Lochie Wilk and a 4-year-old child, were also transported to Gritman Medical. It is not believed that Brunes was wearing his safety restraint at the time of the crash. While Mieczyslaw and his child passenger were safely secured in the vehicle, his female passenger was not.

One lane was blocked for approximately three hours.
