REXBURG — The owner of a now-closed towing business is charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening a worker from another towing company.

Dell Barney, 46, was arrested Tuesday after police were called to Parkside Dr. around 8:25 a.m.

“Two of Mr. Barney’s vehicles had been booted by Guardian Towing,” Rexburg Police Capt. Randy Lewis tells EastIdahoNews.com. “Barney agreed to pay for the boot removal but became angry when the Guardian worker wouldn’t give him two receipts.”

Lewis says Barney went to his vehicle, pulled out a revolver and began walking toward the tow truck operator.

“He kept the gun by his side and never raised it up but did say, ‘Is this worth your life?” Lewis says.

Barney was arrested and booked into the Madison County Jail. He appeared in court Wednesday afternoon and was ordered to have no contact with the Guardian Towing employee. Barney is out of jail on $50,000 bond.
