  Published at  | Updated at

IDAHO FALLS — A high wind advisory has been issued in eastern Idaho for Wednesday, May 24.

Southwest winds of 30 to 45 mph, with gusts of up to 65 mph, will begin at noon and continue until late this evening in the following cities: Burley, Rupert, Heyburn, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, and Pocatello

Strong winds will make driving difficult for high profile vehicles and blowing dust may limit visibility for motorists near recently plowed fields, according to the National Weather Service.

FLOODING:

Flooding continues along several rivers in eastern Idaho.

The Big Wood River near Hailey and the Salmon River from Stanley to the Lemhi County Line are flooding above their banks and flooding is expected to continue over the next few days.

The Big Lost River near Mackay and Antelope Creek near Darlington also are flooding. Officials say back country roads many be inundated with water and washed out. Travel in those areas is not advised.

The Bear River in Bear Lake County is also rising. The river is measuring above flood stage at 7.9 feet and is expected to reach 8.2 feet by Friday. Minor flooding is occurring on rural roads and in fields and pasture land in the Pegram and Dingle area. Driveways to low lying homes next to the river near Dingle may have water across them. Some basements of low lying homes next to the river will experience seepage.

The Portneuf River has dropped below flood stage and is now measuring at 8.1 feet. The river is expected to continue its decline through the week.
