Labrador holds gubernatorial campaign rally in Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS — Raul Labrador held his first east Idaho campaign stop Thursday after announcing his candidacy for governor this week.
The Republican U.S. Representative for Idaho’s 1st Congressional District greeted supporters at the Melaleuca Events Center and, after being introduced by his wife, Rebecca, shared why he decided to run for governor.
“It’s time to unleash the raw potential of our state, to imagine a future that’s brighter and more prosperous than anything we have ever seen,” said Labrador. “We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to propel the state forward.”
During an interview with EastIdahoNews.com, Labrador said he will focus on improving education and reforming the Idaho tax code if he is elected governor.
“We have a tax code riddled with loopholes where special interest groups receive so many benefits but everyday Idahoans do not,” Labrador said. “We need to improve that and have a better tax code.”

Labrador was elected to the Idaho House of Representatives in 2006. The Brigham Young University graduate said he has spent the past decade working and fighting for the people of Idaho and they can trust him.
“I am who I say I am,” Labrador said. “I keep my word and I keep my promises. I am somebody who actually does what he says he will do.”
Labrador joins Lt. Governor Brad Little, former State Sen. Russ Fulcher, and Boise business developer Tommy Ahlquist in the race to succeed Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, who is not running again.
