IDAHO FALLS — Idaho State Police are investigating a motorcycle crash where illegal drugs were found.

Mickelo Harris, 42, of Idaho Falls was driving southbound on Interstate 15 on a 1982 Honda motorcycle when he took the 119 off-ramp at a high rate of speed, witnesses say.

Harris failed to maintain his lane, driving over to the left shoulder where he lost control of the motorcycle, according an ISP news release.

Skid marks on the roadway show Harris tried to stop just prior to leaving the roadway at a curve on the exit ramp.

Harris momentarily became airborne when he left the roadway, then landed in the grass. The motorcycle tipped to the left and he was ejected. The motorcycle then rolled several times.

Idaho State Police say witnesses, who were driving at 80 mph, reported the motorcyclist passed them very fast prior to the crash.

Harris was not wearing a helmet and was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a leg injury. Drug paraphernalia was found on Harris while being transported, prompting a thorough search of his belongings at the crash scene, according to state police.

What is believed to be heroin, syringes, a spoon with burn marks, a scale and marijuana edibles were allegedly discovered in a backpack worn by Harris.

Drugs

Harris was medically cleared and is being held with no bond at the Bonneville County Jail. Drug charges are pending. He will make his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Trooper Josh Wrathall investigated the crash and says motorists should report reckless and dangerous drivers “Hopefully we can prevent these types of incidents,” Wrathall said. “Luckily no one was killed today.”

State police say the crash is under investigation with the assistance from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Falls EMS.
