The following is a news release from Development Workshop, Inc.

IDAHO FALLS — The Scenic River Classic, Idaho Falls’ oldest race event, is going on hiatus in 2017. Due to a perfect confluence of late surfacing complications, Development Workshop is forced to call off the popular event for this year which was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 17.

The race started out as the “Bridge to Braves” back in 1987. This would have been the 30th anniversary of the fund raising event for Development Workshop. Over the years, the race has generated tens of thousands of dollars for people with disabilities served by Development Workshop and has become a fun tradition for many racers.

Individuals who still want to support Development Workshop have several other opportunities in the coming months. The organization’s other fundraising events will go on as scheduled beginning with the Toyota/Development Workshop golf tournament to be held on July 8th at Teton Lakes Golf Course in Rexburg.

Another golf tournament on September 9in Salmon will raise funds for individuals with disabilities in Lemhi and Custer Counties. And of course, the perennial event loved by kids young and old alike, the Festival of Trees, will be held November 13-17 at the Shilo Inn Convention Center in Idaho Falls.

Development Workshop’s mission is “to assist individuals who have a disability or who are disadvantaged to recognize and to achieve their chosen level of economic and social independence.” Funds raised directly benefit people with disabilities served by the organization.

Mike O’Bleness, President and CEO at Development Workshop said, “Obviously, we regret putting the race on hold. A lot of time has been invested over the last 29 years to build the Scenic River Classic into a fun and competitive event. Although we are taking a break from the race this year, there are other events where the community can come out and have a great time while supporting people with disabilities. We invite everyone to join us at our other events and hope to see you back on the river in 2018. “

All pre-registered racers will be refunded in full.
