POCATELLO – A highly anticipated project to repair Shelley’s Main Street, which is also U.S. 91, is slated to begin July 10.

According to a Idaho Transportation Department news release, the project was originally slated for construction in 2019, but the recent severe winter with historic snowfall and moisture levels accelerated the work.

The project is a mill and inlay, in which crews will remove a few inches of the damaged roadway surface and place back new asphalt. The project also includes replacing 23 sidewalk ramps to make them compliant with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, plus the addition of a southbound and northbound left turn lane at Locust Street.

The project design and preparations were fast-tracked to meet this summer’s construction season. Contractor’s bids were opened June 6, and the low bid was submitted by DePatco Inc., of St. Anthony, at $1.48 million.

The project must be completed by Aug. 18 in anticipation of the eclipse Aug. 21 and the Eastern Idaho State Fair in the first week of September.
