2 Fort Hall men arrested after high-speed pursuit

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot police say two Fort Hall residents were taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit earlier this week.

The incident began Monday evening when police attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed on the south end of town, according to a news release. The driver allegedly did not yield.

The vehicle, which was traveling south on Highway 91, continued into the Fort Hall reservation, reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour, according to the news release. The vehicle eventually got stuck, and the occupants allegedly tried to flee on foot before they were taken into custody.

Alex Charles Eschief, 32, was charged with a felony for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer in a motor vehicle and three misdemeanors for failing to purchase a driver’s license, failing to provide proof of insurance — a second or subsequent offense, and resisting or obstructing officers.

A hearing that will determine if there is enough evidence to take his case to trial has been set for July 13.

Dustin Dale Osborne, 39, was charged with a misdemeanor for resisting and obstructing officers. He pleaded guilty to the charge Wednesday and was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail; however, all but three of those days were suspended, according to Bingham County Magistrate Court records. He was also ordered to pay a fine and serve a year of supervised probation.
