5-month-old Caldwell child left in car in May died from overheating, prosecutors say

CALDWELL — A 5-month-old baby who died after being left in a hot car in May died from overheating, prosecutors said.

The Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office told KBOI-TV that the 5-month-old baby died from hyperthermia. Hyperthermia is when the body temperature rises much higher than normal body temperature.

According to police reports, 5-month-old Kyrae Vineyard was found unresponsive and without a pulse when police and first responders got called to the 4000 block of Caldwell Boulevard on May 20 after a report of a baby left in a vehicle.

The child’s mother, Elisa Johnson, told KTVB-TV in May that her boyfriend was watching Kyrae while she was at work and that he was signing papers for a new car at a dealership, when he lost track of time, leaving the 5-month-old unattended in the vehicle.

An investigation is still ongoing, and no formal charging decisions have been made yet.
