BINGHAM COUNTY – An Ammon man accused of lewd conduct with a minor died eleven days before he was scheduled for a jury trial.

Derick Peterson, who was charged with two counts of lewd or lascivious conduct with a teenager, died Friday, Sept. 8. Officials are investigating the cause of death, but believe it to be suicide.

“I can confirm that is the information I have,” Bingham County Prosecutor Cleve Colson told EastIdahoNews.com.

Peterson had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prosecutors officially closed the case against Peterson on Sept. 15.

He was previously scheduled to go to trial Sept. 19.
