The following is a news release from the Minidoka Sheriff’s Office.

RUPERT – Days after he was swept down the Snake River, the body of a missing Burley man was found within a mile of where he was last seen.

John Meithof, 54, and Lori Meithof, 40, were fishing in a boat below the Minidoka Dam on Sept. 1 when they were swept away by the current. Neither of the two were wearing a life jacket.

Nearby boaters quickly pulled Lori from the water but were unable to find John.

The Sheriff’s Office, the Cassia Couty Sheriff’s Office, Mini-Cassia Search & Rescue, Life Flight and the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office searched five miles of the Snake River. They were initially unsuccessful in their search.

The search continued until Sept. 4, when two citizens found John’s body within a mile of where he was last seen.
