Children’s singing group seeking family in need of financial help
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — A local children’s singing group needs your help in finding a family in need of financial help.
S.O.S, Singers on Stage, is a group made up of 6- to 14-year-olds. They practice for countless hours every year to hold a community benefit concert with proceeds going to a local family in need.
“When the kids see someone in need, they are excited to reach out and help be a part of uplifting a family,” director Janie Christensen tells EastIdahoNews.com. “There’s just something that changes about them if they’re doing something for other people, and it helps us think outside of ourselves.”
Christensen said the concert consists of music and dance numbers. The group has been doing it for nearly two decades and have raised money for a variety of different families experiencing hardship.
“Our kids sing anything from country to pop to theatre to Christian. We love for the kids to dabble with any kind of song and learn and appreciate any kind of music,” Christensen says.
She said the choir decided to reach out to needy families after one of their members were diagnosed with leukemia 18 years ago.
“It’s really taxing on a family who struggles with someone who is ill or someone who’s suffered a death,” Christensen says. “It’s a tradition that has continued on ever since.”
The benefit concert will be held at the Colonial Theater on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7.
