One testing location in Rexburg showed positive for E. coli

REXBURG — The city of Rexburg is responding to rumors posted on Facebook Thursday morning about the community’s water being unfit to drink.

In an emailed statement, the Rexburg Water Department reports that during a routine weekly sampling of eight different areas in the community — one of the samples tested positive for the E. coli bacteria.

The positive sample came from the northwest section of the city. No other locations have tested positive, according to a news release.

The sample was sent to an independent lab for further testing. The results, which are expected Friday, will be sent to the city and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.

DEQ requirements in the case of a positive sample mandates a resampling procedure which requires retesting of the failed sample point as well as multiple other locations in the vicinity, including city wells.

City workers have resampled in accordance with all DEQ requirements and is awaiting results.

There currently is no boil order in place.
