Police investigating possible double-homicide, former Pocatello cop arrested as person of interest

  Published at

NAMPA — Nampa police are investigating a possible double-homicide after locating two dead individuals at a residence Thursday night. Authorities said a person-of-interest in the case once worked for the Pocatello Police Department.

According to a press release from the Nampa Police Department, police responded to an address in the 1900 block of West Flamingo Street for a report of an unattended death. Upon their arrival they located two dead individuals, identified as Paul Robert Taylor, 76, and Mary Jane Taylor, 77, both of Nampa, at the residence. As police investigated the deaths through the night, they are now investigating it as a homicide.

A person of interest, William Paul Taylor, 48, of Nampa was taken into custody early this morning on unrelated charges in Deschutes County, Oregon. Police say information during Taylor’s arrest and information at the residence has lead the police to believe the two dead individuals are his parents. Police say Taylor’s last known address was at the same address his parents lived in Nampa.

Police learned Taylor was a former Nampa Police Reserve Officer from June of 1990 to October of 1991. He then was an officer with the Pocatello Police Department from Oct. 28, 1991, until Dec. 20, 1996.

Taylor is being held on a Canyon County warrant for a felony failure to report a death and additional charges through Deschutes County. He is being held on a $1,000,000 bond.

An autopsy is to be scheduled early next week to confirm the identities of the two bodies.

Anyone with information that will help with the investigation should call Nampa Police Department at 468-5680 or 343-COPS.
