1 dead, University of Utah on lockdown amid reports of shots fired
Published at | Updated atSALT LAKE CITY — One person is dead and campus is on lockdown after a shooting at Red Butte Canyon near the University of Utah campus. Police are searching for a suspect.
Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer told KSL.com officers weren’t immediately releasing the victim’s gender or other details.
The suspected gunman is a white man wearing black clothes and beanie hat, as well as a tattoo on his face with a cross and teardrop. The university tweeted that he possibly was driving a forest green pick-up truck with Colorado plates. His name has not been released.
The university advised those on campus to shelter in place and issued a campus alert Monday about 9 p.m.

A state helicopter was responding, along with multiple Salt Lake County police agencies.
Light rail service nearby was temporarily suspended, with the TRAX red line stopping at Stadium Station with police nearby.
