Free corn maze raising money for east Idaho mom with cancer

PRESTON — A Firth-based corn maze design company is helping a local mother who’s been diagnosed with cancer.

Maze Play designed a family-friendly maze for 40-year-old Tracy Barnes who is battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The cancer has already spread from her pancreas to her right lung.

Barnes parents Gerry and Nick Crookston worked with Maze Play to design the maze and to plan a special benefit day at their corn maze and pumpkin patch called the Corn Walk Alley.

This is the first year the Crookston’s have hosted a maze and thought it would be best if utilized as a unique way to help their daughter through this difficult time.

“We’re praying for a miracle for her,” Gerry told the Idaho State Journal, adding that her daughter is a wife and mother of six children — the oldest is a senior in high school and the youngest is 4.

Barnes was diagnosed in August and is from McCammon. All donations will aid the family and help with medical treatment for Barnes.

Entrance to the maze is free and donations are welcome. The fundraising goal for Barnes is $10,000 and so far $3,500 has been raised for Barnes and her family. The fundraiser will be Monday, Oct. 30.

The corn maze is located at 666 N. 800 W. in Preston, which Maze Play employees will be helping operate on Monday.

The Crookston’s Corn Maze will remain open until November 4. The maze is two-acres large and has games to play inside like Farm Scene Investigation. This game is a who-dunnit featuring Farmer Joe and several farm animal characters.

The Crookston family appreciates any community support as their daughter and family battle through this hard time.
