I-15 in Blackfoot reduced to one lane Monday and Tuesday

The following is a news release from the Idaho Transportation Department.

POCATELLO — The Idaho Transportation Department will close the South Blackfoot Interchange (exit 89) southbound on-ramp Monday and Tuesday. Crews will complete repaving southbound I-15 near the ramp. Northbound improvements will be suspended until next spring.

The ramp closure will begin at 7 a.m. Monday morning and continue through 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

I-15 is reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit is lowered.

Improvements include smoothing the roadway to eliminate cracked and deteriorating pavement. I-15 final paving activities on the southbound side will be complete the following week (Oct. 23), allowing all lanes to be open.

“The project started late due to the solar eclipse and crews encountered unexpected soft spots that have slowed down construction,” said ITD Engineering Manager Dan Harelson. “Attempting to complete this project now would be a high-risk activity due to low temperatures, so it is safer to wait to complete the second half of the project once temperatures increase.”
