Idaho kicks off the Christmas season with the capitol tree lighting

BOISE – It’s a sign of the season.

A Christmas tree is shining bright at the Idaho State Capitol Building.

Hundreds of people filled the steps of the Statehouse Monday night to ring in the Christmas season at the annual Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.

Following the tree lighting, guests were invited inside the Statehouse.

Scholastic books were given away to all the Children as an early Christmas gift.

This year’s Christmas tree is a 55-foot blue spruce.

It comes from a yard in Boise. A woman named Janet donated the tree. It had been part of her family for years. Her late husband would decorate it every Christmas. After he passed, she decided to donate it.

Now, it’s shining over Idaho’s Capitol.
