The following is a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

On Nov. 23, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Idaho Falls Ambulance responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of 1st St. and Ammon Rd. involving four vehicles.

Deputies found that a white Oldsmobile Bravada had struck a Mazda M6 in the intersection and came to rest a couple hundred yards away on Ammon Rd. Witnesses on scene reported that the Bravada was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran the red light striking the Mazda. Two other vehicles stopped abruptly to avoid the initial collision between the Oldsmobile and Mazda also collided with each other.

Deputies located the driver of the Bravada sitting inside and identified him as James R. McDaniel, 35, of Idaho Falls. McDaniel showed signs of impairment at that time and deputies began Field Sobriety Testing to determine if he was intoxicated. McDaniel admitted to deputies on scene of previous marijuana use and did not have a clear story of his travels prior to the crash. During this time, a K9 Deputy was used to check McDaniel’s vehicle and located a small amount drugs believed to be Heroin.

McDaniel was placed under arrest and transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for a medical clearance.

Once cleared, McDaniel was transported to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked for felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor reckless driving. McDaniel was also cited for failure to maintain liability insurance.

The driver of the Mazda, as well as an occupant of a vehicle in the secondary crash, were transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ambulance with minor injuries. Another occupant of a vehicle in the secondary crash was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by private vehicle to be checked as well.
