The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

BLACKFOOT — At 2:22 a.m., Nov. 16, the Idaho State Police investigated a crash Northbound on I-15 at milepost 90, near Blackfoot.

Challis Haumont, age 30, of Buhl, was driving northbound in a Peterbuilt semi pulling a trailer.

Another semi was stopped on the right side of the road when the driver of the semi pulled in front of Haumont in order to illegally use the median crossover.

Haumont swerved to avoid a collision and went into the median where his vehicle overturned. He was transported by ground ambulance to Bingham Memorial in Blackfoot. Haumont was not wearing his seatbelt. The crash is still under investigation.

Idaho State Police confirm the truck was loaded with 87 cattle and three of them died as a result.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article stated that no cattle was in the truck based on preliminary reports from dispatch. The truck was in fact loaded.
