WEATHER & ROAD: Chance of light snow or rain today

REXBURG — A winter weather advisory in the Upper Valley expired at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Otherwise, the only major weather advisory is in western Wyoming where a special weather statement is in effect. Between 2 to 6 inches of snow are predicted in the mountains this weekend and 1 to 2 inches in the valleys.

Saturday’s Forecast

The Upper Snake River Plain will be cloudy in the morning with a slight chance of snow or rain. It’ll be mostly sunny this afternoon, with a continued slight chance of rain or snow. Highs of 40 to 47 degrees are expected with southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph. It’ll be cloudy at night with lows of 22 to 29 degrees and light winds.

It’ll be mostly cloudy in the Lower Snake River Plain this morning with a chance of snow or rain showers. It’ll be mostly sunny in the afternoon with highs of 40 to 50 degrees. High winds of 15 to 25 mph will decrease significantly in the afternoon. It’ll be clear at night with lows of 24 to 31 degrees and a light southeastern wind.

The Upper Valley and Teton Valley will be cloudy with a chance of snow or rain showers throughout the day. Up to 2 inches of snow is possible. Highs of 35 to 42 degrees are expected. At night there will be decreasing clouds and lows of 18 to 25 degrees.

The Arco, Challis and Mackay areas will be sunny today with highs of 39 to 46 degrees. It’ll be partly cloudy at night with lows of 20 to 27 degrees.

The Caribou Highlands will be mostly cloudy with a chance of snow throughout the day. Up to 2 inches of snow is possible with highs of 38 to 46 degrees. It’ll be mostly clear at night with lows of 19 to 29 degrees.

Road Report

Idaho Highway 28 between Terreton and Leadore is listed as in fair condition Saturday due to icy patches and fog, according to the Idaho Transportation Department. Similar conditions also exist on U.S. Highway 93 between Salmon and the Montana state line.

Additionally, both U.S. Highway 20 and Idaho Highway 87 north of Island Park to the Montana border are listed as in poor condition due to slush and snow on the roadway.
