WEATHER & ROADS: Light snow expected in Upper Valley and Caribou Highlands

IDAHO FALLS — Another snow storm is heading toward eastern Idaho this morning — but snowfall is expected to be fairly light.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the following counties: Clark, Fremont, Madison, Teton, Bonneville, Bannock, Bingham, Caribou, Franklin and Oneida. Light snow is expected to arrived in these areas during the afternoon and will persist through the night.

Most valley locations will only see an inch or two of snow by Tuesday morning. However certain mountains passes such as Pine Creek Pass, Georgetown Summit, and Emigration Pass could see 2 to 5 inches of snow, according to NWS.

Monday’s Forecast:

Idaho Falls, Rigby and Rexburg

There is a chance of snow in the morning, and snow is likely in the afternoon with up to 2 inches possible. Highs of 36 to 44 degrees are expected with winds of 10 to 15 mph. Clouds will move in during the night with a 50 percent chance of rain or snow. Lows of 30 to 37 degrees are expected with winds of 10 to 15 mph.

Pocatello, Chubbuck and Blackfoot

There is a chance of snow in the morning, and snow is likely in the afternoon with between 1 and 3 inches of snow possible. Highs of 37 to 47 degrees are expected with southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph. It’ll be cloudy at night with a 50 percent chance of rain or snow. Lows of 34 to 41 degrees are expected with continued winds.

Dubois, St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs, and Victor

There will be snow throughout the day with between 1 and 3 inches possible. Highs of 31 to 38 degrees are expected during the day. It’ll be cloudy at night with a continued chance of rain or snow. Another 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible with lows of 28 to 35 degrees.

Arco, Challis, and Mackay

Snow is likely throughout the day with between 1 and 3 inches of accumulation possible. Highs of 37 to 46 degrees are expected. It’ll be cloudy at night with a continued chance of rain or snow. Lows of 28 to 35 degrees are expected.

Henry, Soda Springs, Downey, and Lava Hot Springs

Snow is possible throughout the day with between 1 and 3 inches of snow accumulation. Highs of 32 to 40 degrees are expected. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is also expected during the night with lows of 30 to 37 degrees.

Road Report:

The following highways are listed as in fair condition due to icy patches:

  • Idaho Highway 28 between Terreton and Leadore
  • Idaho Highway 29 between Leadore and the Montana border
  • U.S. Highway 93 between Challis and the Montana border
