Man killed after train smashes into parked pickup truck

INKOM — A Pocatello man is dead following a crash between a train and a pickup truck Friday.

Idaho State Police are investigating the fatality crash which occurred at about 8:35 p.m. on southbound Old Highway 91 at Blackrock Canyon Road, near Inkom, according to an ISP news release.

Police reports show Samuel E. Laxton, 45, was in a 1992 Ford truck that was parked on the railroad tracks. A train struck the vehicle, ejecting Laxton.

He succumbed to his injuries on scene. Laxton was not wearing a seat belt.

The train tracks were blocked for approximately two and a half hours, according to ISP.

No details about why the truck was parked on the railway track have been released.
