Police: Driver may have fallen asleep before crashing on US 20

REXBURG — A driver may have fallen asleep before crashing on U.S. Highway 20 Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened north of Rexburg around 3:30 p.m.

“Early investigation indicates the driver may have fallen asleep prior to the accident,” Madison County Sheriff Chief Deputy Bart Quayle tells EastIdahoNews.com. “She was transported to Madison Memorial Hospital and was lucid and able to communicate with first responders on the scene.”

Investigators have not released the woman’s identity or the extent of her injuries.

The vehicle is was totaled and the engine flew several yards from the car.

“We hope that motorists will take the time to buckle up, slow down for winter weather conditions, and pull over to rest when needed,” Quayle says.
