Shots fired at Idaho State Police during traffic stop in Minidoka County
RUPERT — Idaho State Police are investigating a traffic stop that ended with gunfire early Thursday morning.
Police reports show Idaho State Police attempted to stop a Ford Mustang for numerous traffic violations near the intersection of 300 South and 300 West in Minidoka County.
As the trooper attempted to initiate the traffic stop, at about 12:30 a.m., the Ford Mustang fled north towards Rupert.
During the pursuit, gunshots were fired from the suspect’s vehicle, but neither the trooper nor his police vehicle were struck by the shots, according to an ISP news release.
The trooper was able to maneuver the Mustang to a stop shortly after the chase began. Cody L. Hinerman, 25, was taken into custody without incident. Two other adult male passengers were briefly taken into custody, interviewed and released.
The shooting is being investigated by the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office. The crash portion of the incident is being investigated by the Rupert Police Department.
