WEATHER & ROADS: Freezing fog advisory issued in eastern Idaho

  Published at  | Updated at

IDAHO FALLS — A freezing fog advisory has been issued in most of eastern Idaho until at least 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14.

The advisory applies to the following counties: Clark, Teton, Fremont, Madison, Bonneville, Bingham, Jefferson, Bannock, and Butte. Southern Montana also is under the advisory.

Dense freezing fog is expected throughout the region, which will create some areas with near zero visibility conditions. Frost and ice is also expected to form on roadways and especially on bridges, according to National Weather Service officials.

The most dangerous areas will be Interstate 15 from Pocatello into Montana, U.S. Highway 20 from Idaho Falls into Montana, U.S. Highway 26 from Idaho Falls to Swan Valley, Idaho Highway 33 from Idaho Falls to Driggs and Interstate 86 between Raft River to Pocatello.

Air quality advisory

An air quality advisory remains in effect in Franklin County due to elevated pollutant levels in the air. A stable atmosphere with little wind is preventing pollutants from drifting outside the area. As a result, residential wood burning restrictions have been put in place inside the county until at least noon Thursday.

Individuals with inherent sensitivity to increased particulate levels are encouraged to avoid prolonged physical exertion outside. At these levels there is an increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms and increased aggravation of asthma and/or lung ailments, according to NWS officials.
