The following is a news release from the Idaho Falls Police Department.

IDAHO FALLS — On Friday, Jan. 12 at approximately 6:30 p.m., an Idaho Falls man was crossing Grandview Drive near the Shaka’s Chevron gas station in Idaho Falls when he was struck by a Ford F-series pickup traveling Eastbound on Grandview Drive.

The incident occurred after the sun had set. The victim, 56-year-old Esteban Carranza Garcia, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt as he crossed the four-lane road near the intersection of I-15 and Highway 20. Idaho Falls Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and responders immediately began CPR. Shortly thereafter, the victim was transported to EIRMC.

According to employees of Shaka’s Chevron gas station, the man was a regular customer who typically stopped in a few times per day and lived in the area.

Police would like to remind the public to use marked pedestrian crossings whenever possible and to avoid wearing dark clothing when walking at night.

The incident investigation is still pending. Idaho State Police assisted in taking measurements at the scene and with traffic control. The report will be submitted by police to the prosecutor’s office who will determine whether any charges will be filed against the driver of the vehicle who hit the man. No other information is available at this time.
