Inkom man arrested for assaulting officer, DUI

INKOM — An Inkom man was charged with assault on an officer Sunday after police tried to arrest him for a DUI.
A witness called the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office to report a man passed out in his car on the side of I-15 at mile marker 52 near Inkom, KPVI reports.
Inkom paramedics also responded to the scene, as 70-year-old John Gilbert was reportedly passed out. Police determined that Gilbert’s blood alcohol level was over the legal limit.
While being arrested, Gilbert allegedly struck the officer in the chest. Gilbert was charged with a DUI, battery on an officer and resisting and obstructing.
He will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on March 12.
