BONNEVILLE COUNTY — An Idaho Falls man was arrested after investigators say he hit a school crossing guard Monday afternoon.

Austyn Arends, 19, has been charged with felony leaving the scene of an injury accident, misdemeanor reckless driving and misdemeanor failure to purchase a drivers license.

Bonneville County Sheriff deputies were called to a report of a hit and run accident on Honeybee Lane near Bonneville High School around 4 p.m. Investigators say Arends was driving a red Suburban when he struck the crossing guard and left the scene.

Deputies used video surveillance and witness information to find Arends. He was booked into the Bonneville County Jail Monday evening.

The crossing guard sustained injuries and was treated and released at a medical facility. The guard was wearing a safety vest, holding a mobile stop sign and was helping students cross from Rocky Mountain Middle School and Bonneville High school.

Arends is expected to appear in court this week.
