IDAHO FALLS — Police tried for at least 11 minutes to revive a man shot by an officer on Jan. 23, according to audio released Friday evening by the Idaho Falls Police Department.

Shane McVey, 54, was shot once by Officer Earl Laughter III after Laughter responded to a “suspicious person” report at North Corner Avenue and Elm Street. McVey fled into the stairwell of a nearby apartment building when Laughter showed up.

When the officer attempted to apprehend him, investigators say McVey charged toward police and discharged pepper spray at the officer before Laughter fired a shot. Sgt. Patrick McKenna was next to Laughter and both officers began administering CPR, according to police.
