Convicted murderer accused of assaulting staff member in Boise prison

The following is a news release from the Idaho Department of Correction.

BOISE — At the request of the Idaho Department of Correction, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault on a staff member at Idaho State Correctional Institution.

At 11:40 a.m. Thursday, inmate Justin Milo Beeson, 49, assaulted a staff member.

Beeson then barricaded himself in a classroom. After talking with IDOC’s Crisis Negotiation Team for several hours, Beeson surrendered at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The staff member suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from a Boise hospital.

On Oct. 17, 1986 in Ada County, Beeson was given a life sentence for 1st degree murder. His criminal record also includes convictions for grand theft and aggravated battery in Ada County. Beeson has been eligible for parole since 1995.

Idaho State Correctional Institution is a 1,439-bed, men’s prison south of Boise.
