Man arrested on felony stalking charge after violating civil protection order multiple times

IDAHO FALLS — A local man was arraigned on Monday, March 26, on one felony first-degree stalking charge.

Courts documents show Kolter Ferguson, 25, violated a civil protection order three times between when it was issued on Dec. 1, and when he was arrested on March 15.

The 22-year-old victim told police she is afraid of Ferguson because she believes him to be unstable and has possible drug use problems, according to court documents.

Ferguson has had 18 misdemeanor drug, domestic violence, and battery convictions since he was a juvenile. On multiple occasions, the charges against him were amended from felonies to misdemeanors before he was convicted.

According to documents, the victim estimated she has had 80 to 100 missed phone calls and texts from Ferguson. He allegedly used messaging apps and blocked numbers to try and contact her.

Police arrested Ferguson after he allegedly showed up at the victim’s home and knocked on the door. When a male, who was at the victim’s house with her, opened the door Ferguson and the male allegedly began fighting. When police were called Ferguson fled the scene.

He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 4. Felony first-degree stalking carries a minimum of one-year in prison with a maximum of 5 years and a $10,000 fine.
