REXBURG — A man was charged after police were called to a Chinese restaurant Saturday for a report of a customer who became upset with his order.

The incident happened at the Mandarin Restaurant on East 7th North. Officers say the 26-year-old customer had a “large knife” on him and although he never brandished it, employees became concerned and called police.

“The man was belligerent and throwing rice all over the restaurant,” Rexburg Police Capt. Randy Lewis says. “When we arrived and made contact with the male, he refused to show us his identification.”

The manager of the restaurant told police the customer needed to leave and when officers asked him to step outside, he “stated he was not moving.”

“He was very uncooperative and when our officers put handcuffs on him, everyone in the restaurant started clapping and cheering,” Lewis says.

The man was booked into the Madison County Jail on disturbing the peace and delaying and obstructing charges.
