Roundabout expansions underway in Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS — If you’ve driven down Hitt Road (25th) lately, you may have noticed the roundabout at the intersection of Lincoln Road is a bit of a mess right now.

The roundabout is being upgraded from one lane to two lanes as part of a Bonneville County reconstruction project.

“They are starting work on some irrigation structures. They are also removing trees on the mile stretch between 25th (Hitt Road) and Ammon Road,” Bonneville County Assistant Public Works Director Lance Bates tells EastIdahoNews.com.

The old roundabout has been removed and a temporary four-way stop has been placed in the area. Speed has been reduced to 25 miles per hour, and will be adjusted upon completion of the project.

The county also has plans for another roundabout that will be constructed at Lincoln and Ammon Road where there is also a four-way stop. The mile stretch of Lincoln Road connecting Ammon and Hitt will expand to five lanes instead of two.

“Expect delays. Taking an alternate route would be a good idea if (drivers) want to avoid the construction delays, which will happen,” Bates said.

The roundabout on Hitt and Lincoln is expected to be operational by late summer or early fall. The entire project is slated for completion in November.
