POCATELLO – The Chrome in the Dome car and bike show is something car owners and enthusiasts look forward to every year in Pocatello.

New vehicles or old, bought or rebuilt, it’s a platform to show off some of the coolest cars in the area.

Like Michael Hawser’s 1969 “dreamsicle” Chevrolet Camaro, which was his personal 17-year project.

“It’s why we built it, is to come out to shows like this and show it off and have a little fun with it. Part of (the thrill) for me was the actual building of it. This show is just the icing on the cake,” Hawser told KPVI.

While the event may be called a show, it serves a much greater purpose.

Chrome in the Dome is a fundraiser for students in the Idaho State University School of Technology specializing in automotives. All the money goes towards funding trips to conferences and competitions for the next year.

“This is huge. This is a production of the two programs auto technology, and the auto body program at the college of technology, with a lot of support from the rest of the college. And it is an amazing fundraiser for them,” said Russell Butler, an ISU professor.

There are many different awards for many different categories, including the favorites of the Chubbuck and Pocatello mayors.

And each trophy is made by ISU auto students.

“People love the trophies, they’re all hand-made by the students, they’re made from car parts, and every year they come up with amazing, creative ideas,” said Butler.
