IDAHO FALLS — A local man and his family are ready to take their new UTV out for a spin after winning the prize from a local gas station.

“I think everybody always has big hopes that they’re going to win these types of things and I’m very grateful and humbled,” winner Jared Taylor said.

Through the Maverik Adventure Club membership and Trail Point program, customers earn points and save money through purchases. Each point is like a virtual raffle ticket and customers can use them to enter contests for free stuff.

Jared Taylor used over 3,000 of his points to win a Can Am Side-by-Side worth $22,000.

“It’s kind of one of those things I do and then forget just because there are different contests with different timelines,” Taylor said.

Taylor said he had a feeling he may have won the contest before actually getting the price. He didn’t know if the prize was legitimate as his father, who informed him that Maverik called with the good news, thought it was a hoax.

Taylor said Nitro, the spokesperson that manages the giveaway program, works to get a hold of family members to set up the surprise event.

“He reached out to my dad, and my dad just kind of blew him off because he thought it was a scam,” Taylor said.

Eventually, friends were able to get word of Taylor winning the contest and set up a surprise at Eagle Rock Dance Studio on North Yellowstone Highway. The surprise happened right after an orchestrated business meeting and Taylor said he was not expecting it.

“I was surprised that there were all these people I knew there to surprise me and wish me well,” Taylor said. “I’ll take those kinds of meetings all the time.”

Taylor said he’s thankful to Maverik and Snapple for providing the gift.

“If you’re a Maverik customer, make sure you apply your points towards the different contests or promotions they’ve got going on,” Taylor said. “You could be the next winner as well. Why not take advantage of it?”

Taylor and his family are still getting used to seeing the prize at their home and they’re going to be taking full advantage of it.

“We’re definitely going to use it and have fun. We’re going to try to make some memories as a family with it,” Taylor said.
