BONNEVILLE COUNTY — The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, along with many other agencies around Idaho, is participating in adding extra officers to the street between now and August 3 to look for aggressive drivers and speeding violations.

During this time of year, notably called the deadliest 100 days of summer, many of our serious injury and fatal crashes are tied to speeding and aggressive driving. These extra officers will be on the lookout for these and other types of traffic violations in order to help educate and curb bad driving habits.

Traffic laws exist to help the motoring public travel and flow as safely as possible, which makes it very important to have patience in your driving and obey the law. Being in a hurry does not give you the right of way around other traffic and most of the time doesn’t save more than a few moments if you had been driving the speed limit all along.

Avoiding aggressive driving doesn’t only mean obeying the speed limit, it also means using your turn signal, coming to a complete stop at stop signs, and obeying all traffic control devices. Make sure and yield to emergency vehicles and slow down around construction areas and vehicles pulled to the side of the road.

Please help us keep you and your family safe on our roads by utilizing safe driving habits and obeying traffic laws. Pay attention to your driving and avoid distractions like cell phones and electronics. And ALWAYS make sure you and the occupants of your vehicle are properly buckled in and taking advantage of the safety systems in your vehicle. It’s your absolute best chance of avoiding injury in the unfortunate event you are involved in a collision.
