2 dead, 2 hospitalized in two separate car crashes Tuesday

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

BOISE – On October 16th at 1:15 p.m., the Idaho State Police responded to a fatal crash near Chase Road, west of Rathdrum in Kootenai County.

Brady Robert McPhail, 20, of Osburn, was traveling eastbound in a white 2010 Buick Lucerne when he went into the westbound lane of travel. Lonnie Lee Mann, 55 years old, of Nebraska, was traveling westbound in a white 2010 Ford F-250 Super-Duty. McPhail’s vehicle struck Mann’s vehicle head-on.

McPhail was pronounced dead at the scene. Mann was transported to Kootenai Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. McPhail was not wearing a seatbelt. Mann was wearing his. The roadway was blocked for three and a half hours. Next of kin has been notified. The investigation is continuing.

A few minutes earlier around 1:09 p.m., Idaho State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash north of Banks in Boise County.

Fredrik Egurrola, 70, of Homedale, was driving northbound on State Highway 55 near milepost 81 in a 2000 Dodge pickup. David Lankarge, 37, of Killeen, TX, was driving southbound on State Highway 55 in a 2009 Volvo semi-truck pulling a trailer. Egurrola crossed left of the center line into the southbound lane of travel and struck the Volvo head on.

Egurrola succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Lankarge was transported via private vehicle to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts.

Notification to next of kin has been made.

State Highway 55 was blocked for approximately two and a half hours.

The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
