AMMON — If you’ve driven past Ammon Town Center and the Grand Teton Mall this weekend you may have seen firefighters walking in the middle of the road with a boot in her hand.

That’s because the Ammon Fire Department along with other departments with the International Association of Fire Fighters are collecting money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in their annual Fill the Boot event.

“All the donations that we get actually benefit kids that are local,” Ammon Fire Captain Jon Molbert says.

Molbert says the Fill the Boot efforts began on Friday from 9 a.m. until dusk, and on Saturday they’ll be doing the same thing again. Firefighters are going walking around to cars at the intersection of E 17th Street and 25th East when traffic is stopped.

“We’re just trying to make sure that the public has an idea that we’ll be out walking in the street,” Molbert says.

Molbert says locals can also donate at the Ammon Fire trailer located in the Discount Tire Parking lot on 17th Street.

The Ammon Fire Department receives more donations than other departments throughout the state and is ranked in the top three through the district which includes both Idaho and Utah.

Molbert says the community donates between $25,000 to $30,000 within the two days they collect donations.

“Our community is so giving and they help out so much all the time. It really really pays off,” Molbert says.
