IDAHO FALLS– Idaho State Police worked to sweep up a large amount of spilled fiberglass insulation on U.S. Highway 20 around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Idaho State Police dispatch say they are unsure where the insulation debris came from but that one of their troopers found it while patrolling the highway. The mess seemed to be mainly on the westbound side of the highway in the left lane of travel.

A commercial truck driver with Sunkiss and Lindsay Towing pulled off to the side of the road near the St. Leon exit near close to the mess to assist with the cleanup.

Traffic was not blocked off, but it was slowed to nearly a stop as drivers approached the debris.

The Idaho State Police officials says they take spills on the highway very seriously as their priority is to maintain driver’s safety. State police work to keep the highway clear, and try to clean up as soon as possible after debris falls out of a moving vehicle.

State police may also issue citations for loads that aren’t properly secure.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article indicated this was a Styrofoam spill, however, witnesses say it was actually fiberglass insulation.
